A 37-year-old man is charged for shooting outside a gay nightclub in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Timothy James Truett allegedly opened fire outside Pulse Ultra Club on April 1st. The hate intimidation charge is historic: first time this law is used.

The charge marks an important moment for Myrtle Beach city. The hate intimidation law existed before in the code. But this is the first time a prosecutor actually uses it in court. This shows how serious the prosecution takes this case.

Few details about the shooting incident have been released yet. It is unclear if anyone was injured. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. Truett is currently detained awaiting further court dates.

This case is remarkable because it shows how local hate crime laws can be used. Many cities have similar laws, but don't always enforce them. This charge shows Myrtle Beach will now actively use this law.
