Amy Winehouse was one of the greatest singers of her time. She won five Grammy Awards in one evening in 2008. But she could barely enjoy her success. Fifteen years after her death, we reflect on her life and music.

Amy Winehouse was bisexual. That was an important part of who she was. Yet this is rarely mentioned when people talk about her. The media focused mainly on her addiction. They forgot who she really was: a talented and complex woman.

Her album 'Back to Black' from 2006 became world-famous. The songs dealt with love, pain and loss. She sang with a voice that touched people. Millions around the world listened to her music.

But behind the music was also much pain. Amy struggled with serious addiction to alcohol and drugs. The tabloids wrote about her problems every day. She was seen as a spectacle rather than an artist. That was unfair and cruel.

As a bisexual woman, she belonged to the LGBTQ+ community. But that connection was rarely made. Her sexual identity was ignored or hidden away. That is a loss. Because her experiences as a bisexual woman were part of her art.

How do we remember someone correctly? Amy Winehouse deserves more than the story of her addiction. She deserves recognition as a complete person. A woman with a unique voice. A bisexual woman who was open about who she was. An artist who changed the music world forever.

Fifteen years after her death on July 27, 2011, it is time to be honest. We must remember her as she truly was. Not only as a tragic story. But as an icon of her generation. A woman who made beautiful music despite everything.

The LGBTQ+ community can be proud of Amy Winehouse. She was one of us. It is time the world acknowledges that.
