Many young gay and lesbian teenagers feel invisible
Young gay and lesbian teenagers often feel invisible at school and home. The COC asks for attention.
Young gay men, lesbian teenagers and transgender minors often struggle feeling visible. The COC reports this. It is an organization for gay men, lesbian women and other sexual orientations. Many teenagers say they hide or cannot be themselves.
The research shows that at school and home many teenagers hide their true identity. They worry about reactions from classmates and family. This affects their confidence and wellbeing. Many young gay men feel lonely with nobody to talk to.
The COC asks schools to give more attention to this topic. Teachers can make a big difference with inclusive education. Parents have a role too. When teenagers feel safe at home, they feel better.
The organization sees that many teenagers want to be more visible. They search for each other and for adult role models. The missing visible role models makes it extra difficult.
